EOLIAN partner Tekniker presented its innovations in advanced materials at the European Coatings Show 2025 in Nuremberg, Germany, last month.

The development of new materials is a fundamental pillar for the evolution of industrial sectors such as the automotive, aeronautical, consumer electronics, infrastructure, and healthcare industries. Research and innovation are essential for improving additives, coatings, resins, paints, and inks, optimising processes, increasing efficiency, and reducing the environmental impact of the industry.

On its exhibition stand, Tekniker, a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA), presented its technological offerings for improving the strength, durability, and efficiency of materials.

Among the technologies on display, Tekniker showcased its ability to develop recyclable, reprocessable and repairable thermosetting resins as a replacement for traditional thermosetting resins. This expertise is being applied to the development of recyclable wind turbine blades with improved durability and ease of maintenance in the EOLIAN project, where Tekniker leads Work Package 2 – Development of advanced materials based on dynamic covalent bonds. This focuses on the development and characterisation of different types of bisphenol A free epoxy systems containing dynamic covalent bonds, which give them properties such as reshapeability/reprocessability, repairability, and recyclability.

Tekniker also leads Work Package 4 – SHM technologies and operation and maintenance methodologies. This concerning the integration of sensors (corrosion and ice detectors) and actuators (heaters) into the composite material through an in-mould electronics approach.​ Here, Tekniker contributes its ink design and printing capabilities.

The European Coatings Show is a key trade fair for the coatings industry, organized by Vincentz Network and NürnbergMesse. On March 25-27, it brought together manufacturers, distributors, and professionals in Germany to explore the latest trends in paints, varnishes, adhesives, and chemical products, among others.
