Marco Monti, EOLIAN project coordinator
Marco Monti has been working in Proplast as a R&D project manager since 2011. He obtained his degree in Materials Engineering in 2005 and his PhD in Material Nanotechnology in 2009 at University of Perugia (Italy), where he kept working as a postdoc researcher until 2011. During his academic career, he was visiting scientist at Polytechnic Institute of NYU (New York) and at Tecnalia technology centre (Spain). His research interests belong to polymer science and include plastic recycling, biopolymers and fibre reinforced composites. He is co-author of more than 40 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, several chapters in books and several articles in other Italian technical journals.

Cristina Monteserin and Alazne Martinez, Tekniker
Cristina Monteserin holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU, 2010). In 2011, she broadened her expertise by completing an inter-university Master’s Degree in New Materials, from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the University of Cantabria (UC). That same year, she joined TEkniker with a doctoral fellowship from the Iñaki Goenaga Foundation, and completed an additional Master’s Degree in Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials at the University of the Basque Country. In 2017, she obtained her PhD from the University of the Basque Country, with a thesis entitled “Strategies for Improving the Performance of Composite Materials.” She is currently a researcher in the Surface Chemistry and Nanotechnologies Unit (QSN) at Tekniker, where she works on the synthesis and functionalization of nanoparticles, the development of sustainable resins and nanocomposites with enhanced properties, and their physicochemical characterization.
Alazne Martinez obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering (2020, FST) and a Master’s degree in Advanced Materials Engineering (2022, BSE) from the University of the Basque Country. During the final stages of her undergraduate and master’s studies, she completed internships at Tekniker, within the Electronics and Communications Unit, where she contributed to several research and development projects. Her work primarily involved software development for embedded systems and participation in the design and fabrication of sensing and smart surfaces. In 2022, she joined Tekniker as a PhD researcher, focusing on the development of smart surfaces and components aimed at creating hybrid and multifunctional solutions for application in critical environments.

Alessandre Milite and Riccardo Di Giovanni, Politecnico di Milano
Alessandro Milite, PhD Candidate, Politecnico di Milano, is a materials engineer who graduated cum laude from Politecnico di Milano. He began working on the circularity of composite materials during his master’s thesis, focusing on circular strategies for managing prepreg offcuts. Since February 2025, he has been pursuing a PhD, contributing to the EOLIAN project, which focuses on the development of vitrimer matrix composites and related end-of-life strategies and technologies.
Riccardo Di Giovanni, PhD Candidate, Politecnico di Milano, is a Materials Engineer who graduated in 2025 from Politecnico di Milano presenting his MSc thesis about interlaminar fracture behavior of vitrimer matrix composite. Since May 2025, he has been pursuing a PhD focusing on the material characterization and end-of-life strategies of vitrimer matrix composite, contributing to the EOLIAN project.

Claudia Vázquez Sanz and Xabier Munduate, Norvento Enerxía
Claudia Vázquez Sanz is a materials scientist and engineer working at Norvento Enerxía, a Spanish renewables company. With a strong technical background in materials, her work focuses on technical procurement and wind turbine blades design. In the last three years she has been collaborating on R&D projects within the renewables frame, such as the EOLIAN project or neFO Innovation Fund. Claudia has built her career in the field of advanced materials and their application in wind energy. Her experience at international institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Michigan State University strengthens her multidisciplinary approach, combining materials science, simulation and sustainability for the technological development of renewable energies.
Xabier Munduate is a senior technology manager with a demonstrated track record of 30 years in research, design, certification and product development in wind turbine blades. Skilled in R&I with strong project and team management experience. Experience building strategic research agendas and implementation of technological road maps at European and International level for wind energy. Board member of the EERA JPWind, and the EWEA. With a PhD focused on wind turbine blades from the University of Glasgow and a MEng from the University of Navarra. Experience in multicultural work, Denmark, Scotland, Spain, and in projects involving entities from Europe, USA, Korea and Japan.

Guest speakers
Leyre Hernández holds a PhD in Physics and a Master’s in Nanomaterials. She has over three years of experience at Aitiip Technology Centre, where she coordinates European R&D projects focused on sustainable materials and circular economy. In BLADE2CIRC, she leads project coordination, ensuring effective collaboration among partners and alignment with technical and strategic goals. Her background in materials science supports her role in managing innovation processes and promoting environmentally responsible solutions. Leyre bridges research and industry, contributing to the successful implementation of circular strategies in composite materials and fostering impact across sectors.
Aitziber Iturmendi Aguirrebeitia holds a PhD in Nature Science from Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz, Austria (2018), and she has over 13 years of experience in Research and Development. Currently, researcher at the Gaiker Technology Center, specializing in the development, processing, and characterization of polymeric materials within the Sustainable Composites Department, and coordinator of the ECORES WIND European project. She has contributed to 14 articles published in scientific journals, delivered presentations at 7 international conferences, and holds 1 patent (Austria and Europe).
