EOLIAN team member Claudia Vázquez Sanz of Norvento TECHnPower is featured in a new Women in Composites interview published by JEC Composites.

At Spanish company and EOLIAN partner Norvento TECHnPower, Claudia’s work combines technical procurement and wind turbine blade design. She is passionate about the role of materials in enabling more sustainable technologies and leads the Norvento team’s activities in EOLIAN.

In the article, Claudia talks about her career path, from studying Materials Science and Engineering, to international experience at MIT in Boston, and an MSC in Mobility and Safety Engineering, to her current role at Norvento.

Claudia also discusses Norvento’s role in EOLIAN and why she enjoys bringing the team together to work on the project’s new blade designs.

“When working on components of this scale and complexity, it is essential to consider multiple perspectives – materials, design, manufacturing feasibility, procurement – in order to deliver distinctive and cost-effective solutions,” she emphasises. “Projects like EOLIAN reinforce the importance of materials science in enabling more sustainable renewable energy technologies.”

“Another aspect I truly value is the opportunity to collaborate with partners from across Europe. It allows you to know the composites industry inside out and to build a community that shares a strong commitment toward sustainability and innovation.”

Fostering diversity and inclusion is essential in research and innovation projects like EOLIAN, especially given the complexity and global relevance of renewable energy challenges.

“Working with partners from multiple European countries brings together a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and technical approaches, which ultimately leads to more robust and innovative solutions. In EOLIAN, this diversity is not only professional but also cultural. Every six months, we meet at the facilities of one of the consortium members, which gives us the opportunity to experience different countries and cultures firsthand. This helps build stronger relationships and more effective collaboration across the team.”
